Here are my top 12:
1)Download Google map and google translate into your phone. Many elderly Thais can't read, so use audio.
2)Learn these 3 words:
Sawadee - how are you, good day/ any time.
Korp Kun Kap/Ka(male/female speaker) - thank you
Tao Rai? - How much?
These 3 words are enough for all purposes and make the Thais happy too.
3) Don't be afraid to approach them for any help, they are extremely kind and helpful people.
4) Wai🙏 to them instead of shake hands(position your palms level according to status of the person you Wai, the highest forehead level to the Buddha, a little lower to monks or God, slightly lower to the elders, chin level to those similar age or status, chest level to those who are younger).
5)Never use foul language with them and never lose temper in public. Keep all your f**king words back home.
6)Don't pat your hand on a child's head.
7) Don't point your leg towards the Buddha statue or any monk if you happen to sit in the floor in a temple.
8) All Thai food can be prepared non-spicy, just ask for it, they can understand the word “spicy”.
9) Thai food is not just Pad Thai, try Pad Kappow(basil leaves fried with any kind of protein, their most iconic and popular food), stew pork leg rice, Somtum, Tom Yam, Thai desserts etc. Thai love sweet food.
10) Keep some handy gifts in case they did you a favour. They won't want any money.
11)Avoid Grab, at least 2 to 3 times more expensive than taxis, there are other Apps like Bolt or In Drive. MRT, LRT and ferry boats can take you to all touristy places, best to avoid any other form of transports.
12) Arrive early for the Grand Palace, there is a free guided tour in English. Keep your ticket for another free attraction which they can send you there with free transport.
